With a history dating back more than 10 000 years, there is rich story to be told about Waterton Lakes National Park and the areas surrounding this international treasure. Not only was Waterton the first International Peace Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nomadic tribes who roamed the area thousands of years ago left behind a fascinating historic legacy. Trailblazers who were later drawn to this area in search of mountain passes, adventure or a new place to call home have also left their mark on the area’s diverse and unique history.

There are several museums in Waterton Park and surrounding areas that celebrate this story. Visitors and locals alike can also enjoy events offered by arts groups and businesses in the area. From fascinating natural history to good old-fashioned country barn dances, there is a lot to take in, explore and enjoy.
